After a considerable time, the claim of the two tenderers for compensation was sent in, and referred for consideration by the Acting Colonial Secretary, the Colonial Treasurer, and the Acting Registrar General, when it was proposed that the two tenderers might be offered $4000 in lieu of all claims, the Acting Registrar General, however, expressing at the same time his opinion that the two tenderers should get the land, not only as a matter of right but in consideration of the effect that it would have on the influence of Government with the Chinese if they did not.
